Google combines doodles for New Year's Eve mega doodle

A New Year's Eve mega doodle combines the best of Google's doodles from the last 12 months. How many can you spot?

What could be better than a New Year's Eve Google doodle? How about one that combines all the best doodles from the past 12 months?

That's what you've got on the Google home page for one day only. A footballer, Clara Schumann, the wolf from Grimm's Fairy Tales, Dracula and more are all enjoying a New Year's Eve knees-up. Looks like quite a party.

This year saw doodles celebrating Charles Dickens' 200th birthday, TV painting legend Bob Ross' 70th birthday, the 107th anniversary of Little Nemo in Slumberland, as well as birthdays of Auguste Rodin, Ada Lovelace and Niels Bohr.

The playable football and basketball doodles are also there from the Olympics over the summer.

The anniversary of Star Trek's first broadcast is in the background, along with Gideon Sundback's doodle (he invented the zip), Peter Carl Fabergé's, and Gustav Klimt's. In fact, those shelves at the back are packed with doodles, so there's plenty to keep you entertained. Just a shame the awesome playable Moog synth is missing.

Google has also posted a video of the year in review, which you can see below. Hurricane Sandy, the Manila floods, and the Gaza/Israel conflict all feature, alongside the US presidential election and the first person to be cured of HIV. The London Olympics are in there too. And of course, it wouldn't be 2012 without Gangnam Style. Though with more than a billion hits on YouTube, we've probably seen quite enough of it.

So there you have it. Quite a year. What have been your tech highs and lows? Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8? The iPhone 5? iPad mini? Or Android's assault with the Nexus 7 and Nexus 4? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook page. And a very happy New Year to all our readers.
