FreeTel Communications, a California-based startup, today released its Internet Telephony software. FreeTel is available for download, free of charge from the company's site.

The product allows real-time voice communications across the country via the Net, according to Martin Picha, president of FreeTel. "The primary advantage of this software is that users bypass long-distance charges, and it's free," said Picha.

FreeTel features a searchable Electronic Phone Directory that lists people who are online and a keyboard communicator that allows users to exchange instant messages via their computers.

You'll need a 486/33 computer or faster running Windows 3.1 or Windows 95, a sound card, and a 14,400 modem to run the software.
