Facebook test hints at another profile redesign

The company is doing limited tests of a new Timeline layout, hinting at yet another profile redesign.

Facebook may be changing how your profile looks -- again.

The company confirmed today that it is conducting a test of the new Timeline layout, which moves some information and links into the panoramic photo that now stretches across the tops of user profiles.

"We can confirm this is a small test, but don't have anything further to share at this time," a spokesperson said in a statement the company e-mailed to me.

This could mean another redesign is on its way.

Carl Franzen of Talking Points Memo noticed the subtle differences of a new Timeline design.

The new Timeline moves the user's name, home location, occupation, education, and other basic information into a layer of text over the cover photo, and the text was changed to white, Franzen noted.

The new view also adds a "Summary" tab to the profile. When clicked, the tab shows a list of the user's major "Life Events" of the user. Other changes include turning "Likes" into "Favorites," and condensing the current tabs -- "Friends," "Photos," "Map," and new "Favorites" -- into a smaller space just below the cover photo.
