eWorld subscribers move to AOL

Apple confirmed that it will bundle America Online service with its computers, replacing its eWorld service, which it will discontinue at the end of this month.

Apple announced today that it will bundle America Online with its computers, replacing its eWorld service, which it will discontinue at the end of this month.

AOL software will be bundled on Performas and selected consumer-based PowerBooks and Power Macs in North America.

Education and entertainment content will be developed by Apple specifically for AOL subscribers in an effort to reach non-Mac users, according to Cynthia Funnel, spokeswoman for Apple. "By providing content to AOL, we have the opportunity to reach millions of potential customers," she said.

eWorld subscribers who switch to AOL will receive 15 free hours. AOL's pricing plan of $9.95 for 5 hours each month (and $2.95 for each additional hour) will then apply.
