The latest version of the app has a bug that wipes all your ebooks, so best wait for Amazon's fix.
Amazon has updated its Kindle app for iOS devices, but if you're yet to snaffle the latest version, then hold your horses: there's a bug that'll delete your entire ebook library. That wasn't listed as one of the features.
Amazon has put a warning on the iTunes page about the bug, TUAW reports, though only on the US page, not the UK. But the flaw seems to be affecting UK users too, with plenty sounding off in the comments.
"Since the update today, it knocked off my entire collection and I have to re-register my phone?" AlaskaBreeze writes. "I don't want to do that! It was perfect before!"
While JoeTanker writes, "The latest update has totally screwed up my iPad book selection! I now find I've acquired a second iPad when I review my Kindle account. Seems I'm not the only one with problems!"
If you're one of those affected, you'll have to re-register. Enter your Amazon account email address and password, and all your ebooks should be available in the cloud. According to The Verge, Amazon has submitted a fix for the bug, and is just waiting for Apple to okay it.
Just goes to show, it can be worth waiting before grabbing the latest update. A couple of weeks ago, Vodafone warned iPhone 4S owners not to upgrade to iOS 6.1, due to 3G performance issues. So why are there so many bugs nowadays? It could be the mad rush to get software out, as well as the safety net of issuing a fix if there is something wrong.
