INDIAN WELLS, California--ForeFront Group showed off here at Demo 96 a Web-based conferencing package that lets multiple users meet online in real time.

Called RoundTable, the client/server package uses existing Net links to distribute online meetings complete with audio, video, text, and graphics, officials said. A trial version will be available for free download starting February 1.

RoundTable will offer customers real-time, text-based chat along with the ability to create and share programs, graphics, audio, and video. The software uses a conferencing metaphor with three components: the roster, the canvas or workspace, and a text chat window.

Compatible with any Web browser, the software will run on Macintosh and Windows clients. The server module will run on Windows 95, Windows NT, and Unix systems.

Initially the RoundTable client module will be free. The server module will be priced according to number of users and the number of conferences.
