Corel launches stand-alone e-mail

Priced at $69, the e-mail client is meant to compete directly against Microsoft's dominant Outlook product, which sells for roughly $89.

Corel introduced a stand-alone version of its WordPerfect Mail e-mail software on Wednesday, breaking out the application that was previously available only as part of its desktop-software package for small businesses. Priced at $69, the e-mail client is meant to compete directly against Microsoft's dominant Outlook product, which sells for roughly $89.

Corel first introduced the e-mail application, which is built through a partnership with Yahoo, as part of the small-business offering last year. WordPerfect Mail promises many of the same functions as Outlook, including calendar tools, a search engine designed to help users sort messages, and antispam tools for blocking unwanted e-mail. The e-mail system also offers tools for coordination of RSS feeds directly from its scheduling interface, and features some contact-management capabilities. WordPerfect Mail also offers contact-management features.
