The California State Senate has passed a bill that will require ISPs (Internet service providers) to provide a 30-day notice before canceling or transferring a customer's account. ISPs will be required to describe why the service is being transferred, include information about new rates and terms of service, and provide a statement informing people they can switch to another provider.

The bill will be sent to the state Assembly for a vote.
