US shoppers made $1.2 billion in purchases with their phones and tablets on Friday, the first time in US retail history that mobile revenue exceeded $1 billion in one day, according to data released Saturday by Adobe.

Overall Black Friday sales surpassed another milestone, rising 21 percent to $3.34 billion, the first time the post-Thanksgiving day shopping day had passed $3 billion, Adobe said. Combining purchases made on Thanksgiving, online shoppers in the US spent $5.27 billion by the end of Black Friday.

Internet retail giant Amazon reported witnessing similar growth in mobile sales.

"Thanksgiving is quickly becoming one of the busiest mobile shopping days on Amazon in the US," the company said in an email Friday. "In fact, mobile orders from Amazon customers on Thanksgiving Day exceeded both Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday 2015."

The growth in online shoppers comes as fewer US shoppers appear interested in braving the often-raucous crowds at local retailers. Only 23 percent of US consumers said they planned to shop in stores after Thanksgiving this year, compared with 28 percent last year, Bank Rate reported.

Adobe said the five top selling electronic products on Black Friday were Apple's iPads, Samsung's 4K TVs, the Apple MacBook Air, LG's TVs and Microsoft's Xbox.
