Apple reportedly switches channels on TV plans, eyes digital guide instead

Digital TV guide would list content available on a variety of video apps and launch programming with a single click, according to Recode.

Apple may not have given up on TV programming after all.

After pausing plans last year for a service that would stream live TV over the internet, the company is now focusing on creating a digital TV guide that would work on Apple TV boxes, iPhones and iPads, according to a Recode report Thursday. Apple is in talks with TV programmers and other video companies about a service that would tell you what's on where and help you watch it, the site reported.

The service would corral information on programs available on video apps such as those offered by HBO, Netflix and ESPN without having to launch each app individually. The movie or TV show of your choice would begin with a single click through the guide, Recode reported.

Apple declined to comment on the report.

Apple's much-hinted-at subscription TV service was widely expected to be unveiled last year, but those plans were reportedly scrapped because of a lack of progress in securing licensing deals for programming from content providers such as TV networks.
