AOL names Time's Web head

AOL Time Warner appointed Ned Desmond, former president of Business 2.0 magazine, to be the executive editor of Time Inc. Interactive. Desmond will oversee Time's efforts to integrate its content into the AOL flagship online service and to develop the magazine publisher's online content subscription business.

Desmond's appointment is part of AOL Time Warner's revamped business strategy for the AOL division, which is suffering from plummeting advertising revenue. Part of this strategy will involve offering content from Time's magazines onto America Online exclusively and as a subscription on the Web. Desmond will report to Time Executive Vice President John Squires, editorial director John Huey, and AOL Vice Chairman Ted Leonsis.
