IM chief Chamath Palihapitiya explains how free e-mail fits into his company's plans.

In an interview with CNET News.com on the eve of the AOL Instant Messenger Mail launch this week, Chamath Palihapitiya, vice president and general manager of AOL Instant Messenger and ICQ, talked of AIM as a communication portal with tools for everything from short message service to blogging and now e-mail.
