The first wave of popular HBO series and movies has officially landed on Amazon Prime.
As of Wednesday, Prime members in the US can now catch a full lineup of HBO shows, films, miniseries, documentaries, and specials at no extra cost. Amazon has even cooked up a special page called the HBO Collection through which Prime subscribers can stream their favorite HBO selections.
And just what can you watch?
On tap are all seasons of such popular past HBO series as "The Sopranos," " Six Feet Under," "The Wire," "Deadwood," and "Rome." Also available are select seasons of current HBO shows such as "True Blood," "Boardwalk Empire," and "Treme."
Prime users will also find miniseries such as "Band of Brothers" and "Angels in America," original HBO motion pictures such as "You Don't Know Jack" and "Mary and Martha," comedy specials from Louis CK and Ellen DeGeneres, and documentaries such as "When the Levees Broke" and "Ghosts of Abu Ghraib."
Amazon promises that more HBO shows, including "The Newsroom" and "Veep," will pop up in the coming years courtesy of its exclusive deal with the cable giant. The HBO Go app will also land on Amazon's Fire TV later this year.
"We're thrilled to deliver this collection of groundbreaking, beloved content from HBO to Amazon Prime members for unlimited streaming at no additional cost," Brad Beale, Amazon's director of Digital Video Content Acquisition, said in a statement. "Given the number of customers who purchase these titles from Amazon, we know how much customers love these shows."
A Prime subscription previously cost $79 a year. Amazon recently announced a price hike to $99 for new members and existing members upon renewal. Beyond the streaming movies and TV shows, membership entitles you to free two-day shipping on many items and a Kindle ebook lending library.
