Adobe to launch Project Mighty and Napoleon in 2014

Adobe will join forces with stylus manufacturer Adonit to bring its Mighty and Napoleon hardware products to market in 2014.

Adobe will join forces with stylus manufacturer Adonit to bring its Mighty and Napoleon hardware products to market in 2014.

The tools were first revealed at the Adobe Max conference earlier this year, marking Adobe's first foray into hardware. The Mighty is a pressure-sensitive stylus that integrates directly with Adobe's Creative Cloud and its range of tools, such as Kuler, while Napoleon is a ruler that simulates the feel of using a drawing aid on a tablet.

The Napoleon features a set of shapes on the ruler, which can be selected by the user. When they are touched, a projection of that shape is placed on the tablet's surface to help you draw.

Adonit is the company behind the pressure-sensitive stylus for the iPad that runs on Bluetooth. The partnership with Adobe will bear fruit in the first half of 2014, though no pricing has been announced for either product.

Adobe also revealed two new projects to complement the devices. The first is an iPad app for drafting, called Project Parallel, designed to work with the Napoleon ruler. Project Contour lets users take a photo of a shape using an iPhone and then immediately use it with Napoleon on the iPad, making it ideal for architects.
