Samsung Galaxy S III edges closer to T-Mobile, AT&T
The Bluetooth SIG indicates the Samsung Galaxy S III is coming to T-Mobile and AT&T.
It's official, Samsung's next superphone is destined for T-Mobile and AT&T. At least, that's what industry interest group the Bluetooth SIG seems to think. Apparently the body has approved T-Mobile and AT&T flavors of the mighty Galaxy S III.
Phone blogs Gotta Be Mobile and Unwired View both report that the Samsung SGH-I747M and SGH-T999 model handsets received the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) green light. These devices, the SGH-I747M (expected to hit AT&T) and SGH-T999 (slated for T-Mobile), appear to be variants of the Galaxy S III and will feature the latest version of Bluetooth, version 4.0.
As both sources point out, it's unclear how much the phone will change once it gets in U.S. carriers' hands. Judging from the Galaxy S II release though, my feeling is that all Galaxy S III versions will have the same basic specs since Samsung's mobile phone clout has certainly increased in recent years.
There may be a chance that the Galaxy S III handset will run slightly different clock-speed processors. For example, both the T-Mobile and AT&T versions (the Galaxy S II Skyrocket) came with Qualcomm's 1.5GHz Snapdragon S3, while the Sprint model and standard AT&T Galaxy S II were powered by a 1.2GHz Samsung Exnyos chip.
I'm fine with a little variety, just please, please no more crazy names. The last thing consumers need when the phone debuts this summer is a title like the "Samsung Galaxy S III Epic 4G Touch II (TM)" or some such nonsense.
