Wireless standard gets support
Proxim, Enterasys Networks, and other tech companies this week announced plans to support a new high-speed wireless technology that connects PCs and laptops together. The new wireless standard, called 802.11A, has data transfer speeds of 54 megabits per second, about five times faster than the current technology, called 802.11B. Wireless networking companies Proxim, Intermec Technologies, Card Access and TDK said they will support 802.11a processors made by chipmaker Atheros. Proxim plans to ship products supporting the fast wireless standard later this fall. Network equipment maker Enterasys announced plans to release technology that supports both wireless standards.
