Verizon previews wireless network

Verizon Wireless on Wednesday said that it is letting a group of businesses and application developers in the Philadelphia area preview its as-yet-launched third-generation wireless telephone network. Verizon will measure the actual transmission speeds over the network. It expects between 40 and 60 KB per second, about the speed of a dial-up modem. Verizon intends to launch the network sometime before the end of the year.
