Unisphere launches new network router

Router maker Unisphere Networks, a private company hoping to go public soon, said Monday it is shipping a new device intended for network operators that want to migrate to Internet-based systems without throwing away older layouts built with asynchronous transfer mode, or ATM, network technology. The speedy 320-gigabits-per-second device, called the MRX, is intended to be used in conjunction with the company's current ERX line of routers, which have garnered the No. 2 position behind Cisco Systems in the so-called edge router market. Juniper Networks remains the No. 2 provider of high-end routers.
