U.S. Cellular offers unlimited 4G LTE plan...for now

For a limited time, customers can get unlimited 4G data with tethering for $60 per month.

U.S. Cellular is jumping on the unlimited data bandwagon.

U.S. Cellular is now offering an unlimited 4G LTE data plan.

The carrier today announced a new unlimited data plan for customers living in one of its 4G LTE markets. For a limited time, customers can sign up for an unlimited 4G LTE plan for $40 per month with an option to add tethering for $20 more.

U.S. Cellular isn't likely to have much competition when it comes to higher wireless speeds; the company said it is the only provider to offer an unlimited 4G LTE option in most of its markets, having recently expanded in parts of Iowa, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin. The carrier is on track to have more than half (58 percent) of its footprint offering high-speed data.

Should the unlimited data plan not be enough to sway you, U.S. Cellular is offering a $100 instant rebate on select smartphones, including the Galaxy S III and Huawei Ascend Y. What's more, anyone who opts for a smartphone or tablet can pick up a Samsung SCH-LC11 hot spot at no additional cost.

U.S. Cellular is just one of several carriers using unlimited data plans to lure in customers. Sprint Nextel has long been considered the unlimited data provider, while T-Mobile USA and MetroPCS have each introduced their own respective unlimited plans.
