Is one of your New Year's resolutions to upgrade the 10 year old brick that was once considered a compact mobile phone? CNET.com.au's Jeremy Roche leads you through January's most popular handsets.

O2 annihilates the competition this month by introducing, not one, not two, but three smart phones over the Christmas period. Motorola's sleek and sexy V3 Razr debuts at number four while Sony Ericsson's P910i smart phone holds its own at number five.

After six months, the compact K700i from Sony Ericsson is still in the Top 10, closely followed by the cute K500i. The award-winning, tiny Samsung E800 drops back to eighth position with Nokia's massive 9500 Communicator just beating it in terms of popularity.

Last but certainly not least is the first phone we've seen from HP, the iPAQ h6365. Not only is it a mobile phone but it's also a Pocket PC PDA; perfect for home office and business users.

This is the most problematic phone i have ever encountered. The software is not good, it hangs very often. Workmanship of it is terrible (eg. power button get loose easily). Battery life is short.

O2 Xda IIs is thumbs up for me. The bluetooth synchronisation between laptop and Xda device is flawless. The ease of use and mobility is rewarding. The phone clarity is superb and the ability to drill from contacts to phone at the press of a fingertip/stylus is just spot on.

Does everything advertised well & stylish to boot. Hasn't let me down yet. The more I've found out about using it the more I appreciate it. Have had Motorola's for nearly 15 yrs and this is easily there best effort thus far. As soon as they get the Apple iSync via Bluetooth thing sorted i'll probably offer to marry it.
