Apple CEO Tim Cook said the Apple Watch had a record week of sales during the first week of holiday shopping. But it's hard to know just what that means -- Apple doesn't report sales numbers for the wearable.

Cook talked up the smartwatch in a Tuesday email to Reuters as technology research firm IDC noted that Apple shipped 71 percent fewer Apple Watches than it did a year ago. We chat about Cook's news, which sounds a little too good to be true.

We also discuss a potential culprit behind the fiery demise of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7 and talk about CNET's review of Google Wifi.

The 3:59 gives you bite-size news and analysis about the top stories of the day, brought to you by the CNET News team in New York and producer Bryan VanGelder.
