Huddle up: a new Tesco Hudl tablet is coming next year. The wallet-friendly supermarket slate has proved so successful, Tesco is planning a sequel.

Tesco’s chief executive Philip Clarke promises "The new model will be an enhanced version," according to the Guardian.

Tesco reveals it's sold more than 300,000 of its own-brand tablet. The Hudl has been so successful, Tesco says it's run out of stock twice. Other retailers have clearly noticed, with Argos and Carphone Warehouse promoting their own cheap tablets.

The Hudl is an affordable 7-inch tablet that you can pop in your trolley for just £119, or less if you use your Tesco Clubcard points to buy it. Inside the tablet is a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, front and rear cameras, Bluetooth 4.0, 16GB of memory and 9 hours of battery life. It's powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Those are some pretty decent specs, but there are areas a new Hudl could improve. For a start, the current model isn't as fast as we'd expect. There's no 3G option at present, and most importantly, the screen is distinctly average.
