T-Mobile G2 gets official, preorders starting soon

After weeks of building up anticipation for its first HSPA+ smartphone, T-Mobile officially introduces the T-Mobile G2.

Over the past few weeks, T-Mobile has teased us with brief snapshots of its first HSPA+ smartphone but on late Wednesday evening, the carrier officially took the wraps off the T-Mobile G2.

The news confirms a lot of what we already know about the T-Mobile G1 successor. It will ship running Android 2.2 with support for Flash Player 10.1 and Voice Actions. The G2 will also feature a 3.7-inch capacitive touch screen with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and will be powered by Qualcomm's 800MHz Snapdragon MSM7230 processor, which is optimized for longer battery life and enhanced multimedia and Web performance. Of course, this is bolstered by the fact that G2 is designed to run on T-Mobile's HSPA+ network, which promises 4G-like speeds.

T-Mobile provided some additional details about the phone, including the fact that it will have a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and HD video capture, 4GB internal memory and preinstalled 8GB microSD card, Swype, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Unfortunately, pricing and availability date were not announced at this time, but the carrier did say that current T-Mobile customers will get first dibs on G2 preorders, which will begin in the coming weeks. For now, you can sign up for e-mail updates at the official T-Mobile G2 Web site.
