Stocking-filler alert: Mobile phones for Christmas

Strapped for cash but want to get a loved one something gadgety for Christmas? Why not get them one of these inexpensive mobile phones on pay as you go?

If you're on a tight budget this Christmas, but still want to get a loved one something techy, a mobile phone could be the perfect fit. You may be surprised to hear that for only £20 -- or even less -- you can pick up a pay as you go phone.

These aren't cutting-edge handsets, but hey, they'll make calls and send and receive text messages, which is better than no phone at all. Take the Samsung B130, for example, which we reported on the other day -- it's pretty basic, but it's only £5 (plus £10 of credit), from the Carphone Warehouse.

LG KP100, on the other hand, will set you back a swingeing £10. For this extortionate fee, you get a colour screen and a slim candybar design. At only 65g it's really light, so a great choice for anyone who wants something they can tuck away in a bag or pocket. You can buy the LG KP100 from T-Mobile.

Last but not least is the Nokia 2630, which is £20 when bought with £10 of credit. It's a little more expensive than the others but we think it's worth it. A slim casing with easy-to-press buttons and Nokia's simple interface makes for a great buy. You can buy the 2630 at Carphone Warehouse.

You may be perfectly happy with your current handset, but looking to save money. In this case, we suggest looking at SIM-only deals, such as Simplicity from O2, available from almost all the networks. For a fraction of what you'd spend on pay as you go, you can sign up to a contract and get even more texts and minutes.
