MGM Entertainment and Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment have
announced a massively multiplayer RPG based on the Sci Fi Channel's Stargate SG-1 series. The game is tenatively titled Stargate Worlds and will let players travel from world to world through alien portals just like the characters in
Stargate SG-1. Stargate Worlds is currently in its preproduction stages and details are sparse, but the game will tenatively include two player-controllable factions: the "good guys" of Stargate Command and the "bad guy" alien System Lords.
Stargate SG-1, based on the 1994 movie
Stargate, and its spin-off,
Stargate Atlantis, are two of the Sci Fi Channel's most popular programs.
An interesting note: The Cheyenne Mountain Complex, in which Stargate SG-1 is based and for which Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment is named, is not only a real U.S. Department of Defense installation in Colorado but is the main site for NORAD. Officially, there is no stargate there.
