Sprint sends green message with Samsung Seek

Samsung and Sprint announce the immediate availability of the Samsung Seek messaging phone with a green twist.

Samsung Seek

At first glance, Sprint's latest handset, the Samsung Seek, looks like your typical messaging cell phone, with a slider QWERTY keyboard, threaded text messaging, IM, and social-networking integration. However, it also has a green conscience.

The Seek is part of a new trial recycling campaign from Sprint and Samsung that enables customers to use the Seek's packaging to ship back old wireless phones, batteries, accessories, and data cards with a postage-paid paper mailing label. Sprint will then recycle both the equipment and packaging material.

The Samsung Seek will be available in three colors: cool blue, scarlet red, and fantasy pink. Only the cool blue and fantasy pink model will come in the special trial packaging, whereas the scarlet red will simply include the standard postage-paid envelope inside the box. This is so that the companies can compare the performance of the two recycling methods.

Greenness aside, the Seek offers a 2.6-inch QVGA touch screen, a 1.3-megapixel camera, a mobile Web browser, expandable memory, voice commands, and support for Sprint's Family Locator service.

The Samsung Seek is available now in cool blue or scarlet red for $29.99 with two-year contract and after a $50 mail-in rebate. The fantasy pink model will be available starting June 6.
