Sony rolls out new smartphones, cameras, and more at IFA 2014
A fitness tracker, headphones, and a brand-new Sony Walkman also make their debut at Europe's biggest tech show.
The trade show sometimes called "Europe's CES" is underway in Berlin, and Sony has come out swinging with a number of updates to its existing wares, coupled with a few new surprises.
The star of the show is arguably the Sony Xperia Z3 , Sony's new flagship Android smartphone. A 2.5Ghz quad-core CPU drives the 1080p, 5.2-inch screen, which runs Android 4.4 KitKat. The phone also packs a 20.7-megapixel camera with a 25mm wide-angle lens with a sensor that can reach ISO speeds of up to 12800. That could make for great low-light photography, but such high ISOs generally also lead to a lot of image noise -- we'll have to wait and see.
If a smartphone camera is too conventional for you, consider some of the lens cameras Sony also announced. These devices are essentially a camera without a body that you can strap onto the back of your iOS or Android smartphone, using your phone's display as a control interface. The Cyber-shot DSC-QX30 adds a 30x zoom lens to your smartphone, while the ILCE-QX1 will let you mount your own Sony E-Mount lenses.
