Small companies create jobs

The top 500 small- and medium-size companies created a 35 percent increase in jobs in the past year, while the Fortune 500 cut positions, according to Inc. magazine's survey of the top 500 growing private U.S. companies. And about 75 percent of all new jobs in the U.S. economy come from small, entrepreneurial businesses, government figures show.

The top three companies are all high-tech. Atop their list is Video Gaming Technologies, which makes touch-screen gaming machines and leases them to Indian Casinos in Oklahoma. Inc says it's grown almost 10,000 percent since being founded four years ago. The companies have to have sales of $500,000 to make Inc's list.
