Short Take: Rhythms to add ATM to national network

Rhythms NetConnections, a digital subscriber line (DSL) provider, said it will add asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) to its nationwide network, which it leases from MCI WorldCom and Qwest Communications International, by the end of the summer. Rhythms will use ATM in addition to Internet Protocol to provide greater security and quality of service for business customers, said Rand Kennedy, vice president of engineering. Both MCI and Qwest have invested in the company.
