Hewlett-Packard announced its TapeAlert technology for diagnosing tape-device storage problems. The technology enables network administrators to recognize storage problems and access advice on fixes. HP has offered the technology as an open industry standard and is compatible with backup applications from Cheyenne Software, Seagate Software, and Stac. HP will include the technology in its DDS-3 drive and SureStore DAT24 and plans to incorporate it into the whole of its HP SureStore range.
