Frontier Communications, a next generation telecommunications carrier, will use SONET (Synchronous Optical Network) equipment from Hitachi Telecom, which will allow Frontier's Internet Protocol-based fiber optic network to carry data at OC-192 speeds, or 1.28 terabits (trillions of bits) per second. The Hitachi SONET equipment will be in place by April. Separately, Frontier will partner with enterprise resource planning vendor SAP to provide remote connectivity for manufacturers.
