Short Take: Denver residents want open access, study says

An overwhelming majority of Denver residents believe the city council should require Tele-Communications Incorporated to allow competitors access to its cable wires as a condition of its merger with AT&T, according to a survey commissioned by a coalition of Internet service providers. Seventy-nine percent of those polled said TCI is a monopoly, and local governments should pass "open access" laws. The study, conducted by Strategies West Research, has an error margin of 4.2 percent. Denver must rule on the merger by early February.
