Short Take: Broadwing completes Corvis trial

Broadwing, the carrier created by the merger of Cincinnati Bell and IXC Communications, has completed tests of long-haul fiber-optic equipment manufactured by Corvis. The Corvis gear allows high-speed data transfers of up to 10 gigabits per second over long distances without having to regenerate the electrical signal, which can reduce costs for communications carriers. Broadwing, a Corvis , has committed to buy $200 million in equipment from Corvis, a company that thus far has no revenue.
