Short Take: AT&T meets cable telephony goal

AT&T Broadband, the cable division of Ma Bell, has signed up 500,000 local cable-based phone customers, meeting its year-end goal. AT&T Broadband had promised to have between 500,000 and 650,000 cable telephony subscribers by the end of 2000, according to representatives. AT&T said it added 100,000 customers in 42 days. Local cable telephone service was an integral part of AT&T's plan to spend more than $100 billion on cable acquisitions.
