Short Take: Ascend sells financial software unit

Ascend Communications said it has sold of its Astria financial software to French-based Atos, an information technology services provider. Financial terms were not disclosed. Ascend bought Astria as part of its purchase of Stratus Computer in August. Astria was originally a joint venture between Stratus and Atos. Ascend in August said it bought Stratus for its telecommunications technology and planned to divest itself from Stratus's nontelecommunications businesses.
