SBC to use Broadjump self-install software
SBC Communications, a regional local phone giant, has agreed to use Broadjump's self-installation software. The deal, Broadjump's fifth customer announcement, calls for SBC to offer the self-installation service to its high-speed DSL (digital subscriber line) Internet customers. Broadjump's Virtual Truck software allows consumers to set up their DSL equipment and service in about an hour without the need for the help of a technician. SBC will brand the software as SBC Express. Many carriers are phasing out technician-assisted installations for broadband Net access to reduce costs and more quickly activate service for new customers. SBC had 767,00 DSL customers at the end of 2000.
