Samsung's zippy ZX10

Samsung's zippy ZX10

As expected, 3G is a big theme at CES this year, and Samsung has stepped up to the plate in a big way. The Samsung ZX10 may look like a simple flip phone from the outside, but inside you'll find support for 3G UMTS networks, which bring data speeds of between 400Kbps and 700Kbps. Samsung promises that the ZX10 will be the first commercially available UMTS phone in the United States, so you can bet it will go with Cingular, which is growing its UMTS network in the first half of this year. Other features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, a speakerphone, text and multimedia messaging, instant messaging, a TransFlash card slot, a speakerphone, and quad-band (GSM 850/1900/1800/1900) world phone support. The ZX10 should be available by the end of the month, but I wouldn't hold my breath as it normally takes longer than expected to roll out a new high-powered cell phone.
