If you're holding off buying a new phone until the the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini comes along you could be in for a long wait: rumours say the expected cut-down version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 has been pushed back two months.

SamMobile reports that the S4 Mini will surface in the week of 15 July, later than the 20 May release date earlier predicted.

The S4 Mini popped up recently among Samsung's user agent profiles, showing details of different phones. Several versions of the S4 Mini are rumoured, including a dual-SIM model and a 4G model with LTE for extra-fast connection to the Web.

When it does pop up for real, let's hope the Mini is worthy of the S4 name. The S4 Mini is expected to boast a 4.3-inch screen and 8-megapixel camera and should run Android 4.2.2 software. Sadly, it's clearly not a slightly smaller version of the S4, as the name might suggest. Instead, it's likely to be like the S3 Mini, which was a disappointingly underpowered phone slapped with the S3 brand -- much to our chagrin.

Delays have been rumoured to be affecting the full-sized S4 too. While it's still scheduled to go on sale on 26 April as planned, only some countries will get the eight-core version. Everywhere else -- including Blighty -- has to put up with a quad-core version because of reported production delays with Samsung's Exynos Octa chip, limiting the number of eight-core phones Samsung can produce.

The S4 Mini takes its place in a proud tradition of S phones. Hit play on our video to soak up the history of Samsung's flagship phones.
