Really important people who want to use their cell phones while flying may not get their wish anytime soon after a Federal Aviation Administration official told a House of Representatives committee that the FAA has no plans to lift its ban on in-flight phone use. The official said too many hurdles still exist to proving that cell phone use doesn't interfere with an airplane's navigation system. He added, however, that if an airline is willing to test and verify that there is no interference, the FAA might change its mind. On the other hand, the Federal Communications Commission has indicated it is willing to lift its own ban on the practice, but keep in mind that both agencies must agree before you start yakking away.
