Optimus G2 may arrive this fall
Reports suggest LG's rumored flagship smartphone will debut before next year.
LG will introduce the Optimus G2 in the fall of 2013, according to the latest round of chatter. Reportedly, the flagship device will debut right around the time the current model hits the one-year mark.
Previously rumored to arrive as early as last week's annual CES, the Optimus G2 is expected to feature a full 1080p HD display measuring no less than 5 inches. Seeing as how LG did not announce the new device in Las Vegas last week, the next logical venue would be Mobile World Congress scheduled for February.
Further muddying the waters, LG may also be planning a stopgap device for MWC, which reportedly might have a 5.5-inch HD display and quad-core processor. Presumably running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the so-called "GK" could be LG's attempt to beat Samsung to market with a big, bad, superphone. Various reports indicate Samsung is expected to introduce the next Galaxy S smartphone in April or May.
One possible reason LG is holding back the Optimus Gsuccessor is that it prefers to launch the handset with the latest version of Android. History tells us that Google will introduce the next iteration of its mobile platform in late May, with the the first batch of devices arriving in the fall. Should this be the case in 2013, LG's Optimus G2 may be among the first to hit stores with Android 5.0, Key Lime Pie, or whatever Google ends up calling it.
