The OoVoo app for Android has been available for quite some time. OoVoo

With the long-awaited unveiling of BlackBerry 10 finally coming later this week, it's no surprise that we are hearing a lot of chatter about app developers planning to bring their work to the new platform. The latest to join the club is OoVoo, the free voice, video, and text-messaging app that has for some time been available on Android and iOS.

Even though it's widely speculated that the BlackBerry 10 OS will come with a new video-chat-capable BlackBerry Messenger app baked in, an app like OoVoo would still be hugely valuable.

BBM would presumably only be good for multimedia communications between BlackBerry users, which could mean only a very small pool of people to chat with, at least at the time of launch.

However, with OoVoo, BlackBerry users would have the option to fire up HD-quality video and voice calls with friends across different platforms.

What's more, the app allows you to connect with up to 12 different contacts at once.

To be clear, the availability of OoVoo probably won't be enough to immediately lure users away from other mobile platforms. However, knowing that such an app is available on BlackBerry 10 could make them feel more open to a potential switch sometime down the road.

According to the folks at OoVoo, the OoVoo app for BlackBerry 10 smartphones will be offered in the BlackBerry World store later this year.
