This year and 2020 promise to be big years for 5G. Not only do we expect carriers to roll out the next generation of high-speed mobile networks, we also anticipate a crop of new 5G phones that will work on said networks. One in particular is a prototype 5G phone from OnePlus, which the company plans to showcase at this year's Mobile World Congress.

The phone will diverge from OnePlus' main family of flagship phones, which includes the OnePlus 6T, and will be one of the first previews many will get to see of a 5G phone. The company expects to sell the device by the end of May through the UK carrier EE.

OnePlus isn't the only company to demo a 5G prototype phone. At CES 2019 in January, Samsung showed off its own 5G phone under glass. The tech giant is working to release a 5G phone with the US carrier Verizon in the first half of 2019, as well as two other 5G phones with AT&T.
