Nortel in wireless frenzy

Nortel Networks made more than a half dozen announcements Wednesday for its wireless customers. The network gear maker said Wednesday that France's second largest telecom operator, Cegetel, will be using Nortel's equipment to build a wireless backbone. It's Nortel's sixth such agreement in nine months. Also, cell-phone maker Motorola and Nortel will be marketing a combination Motorola handset/Nortel infrastructure package, the two companies announced. Other Nortel deals announced Wednesday have pushed it into the hot location-based services market. Nortel will be using MapInfo content, for example, to offer services like driving directions and traffic and weather conditions to just about any wireless device.
