Whether you're a rugged outdoors type with calloused hands from weekend rock-climbing, or whether you're just a doofus who regularly drops your phone in the loo, Nokia's latest announcement could be for you.

The 3720 is the Finns "most rugged handset to date", sporting an IP54 ingress protection certification. For those new to Ingress Protection, 54 indicates a level five dust resistance and level four water resistance, or in real world terminology: pretty much dust-proof, but only really splash proof for liquids. That said, we've previously submerged phones with an IP54 rating in shallow water during tests and there's nothing to suggest that Nokia's 3720 won't stand up to similar scrutiny.

Under the stiff protective plastic you find a 2.2-inch colour display, tri-band GSM (no 3G!), Nokia Maps (no GPS!) and a 1GB microSD memory card pre-installed. Nothing terribly exciting, but at least the low-end specs will probably keep the battery life a few days longer than recent Nokia N-series phones, which is a good thing if you plan to take this bad boy away on a weekend hike.

Recommended retail is €125 (AU$223) though this figure could change dramatically when it's launched in Australia in the next few months.
