Motorola Razr gets UK price, Ice Cream Sandwich due in 2012

The Motorola Droid Razr's UK price and release date has been revealed -- but the big question is when it will it get Ice Cream Sandwich?

The Motorola Droid Razr is shaving its name to become the Motorola Razr here in the UK, and the first price and release date has been revealed -- but the big question is when will it get Ice Cream Sandwich?

Online retailer Clove -- often first to announce a price, even if we suspect it's a bid to infiltrate news stories like this one -- wants to charge £380 for the Razr SIM-free, without a contract.

The Razr is expected in November, and Clove reckons it'll be available on the first of the month. The major networks will no doubt sell the phone, so we'll keep you posted when details emerge.

Also making its debut today is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which several networks have signed up for. It follows hot on the heels of the iPhone 4S, which is sold by pretty much all the networks.

The Nexus is the new flagship Android phone, and introduces Android 4.0, otherwise known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Packed with new features, Ice Cream Sandwich brings together the smart phone and tablet versions of Google's Android software into one package. Since Google just bought Motorola, we'd like to see Ice Cream Sandwich get Razr'd as soon as possible.

Our intrepid reviewer is at the Razr launch taking a look at the new phone, where a spokesperson told us Ice Cream Sandwich is coming to the Razr -- but we'll have to wait until at least January.

The original Razr, which launched in 2004, is the best-selling clamshell phone of all time: it sold over 130 million phones in the mid-2000s. Motorola no doubt hopes to repeat the success, especially if it can be one of the first phones to show off the power of the new Android.
