Motorola joins WiMax Forum

The chipmaker sets a date for release of products based on the 802.16 wireless specification.

Motorola has signed up to the WiMax Forum, the chipmaker announced Tuesday at the Supercomm conference in Chicago. The WiMax Forum is an industry group promoting the interoperability of products based on wireless specifications. WiMax is a wide-area wireless broadband technology that enables carriers to get their broadband services to people in remote areas. The Schaumburg, Ill.-based company said it will have WiMax products in early 2005 and that these will support 3.5GHz bands.
