Motorola's next big smartphone, the so-called Moto X+1, could be offered with more than two dozen backplate options.

According to details obtained by omnipresent tipster evleaks, the handset will be sold in a variety of colors and finishes, including wood and leather. The current flagship Moto X can be customized with four wood, aka natural, choices: walnut, bamboo, ebony, and teak. Allegedly, Motorola will drop the walnut option in favor of a rosewood finish.

Should the report prove accurate, the Moto X+1 will be offered black, red, gray, and blue leather back panels. It's unclear whether this is a faux finish like recent Samsung models or if it's genuine leather. Considering Motorola employs actual wood for its natural plates, I would not be surprised to see tightly stretched leather.

With 25 colors and finishes rumored for the Moto X+1, the list is shorter than that for today's model. Perhaps Spearmint, Purple, Hunter Green, and others aren't very popular.

There's no indication as to when the MotoX+1 will arrive, but we might assume it won't be long. The first Android Wear-powered smartwatch, the Moto 360 is expected this summer; a new flagship phone might be the perfect companion piece.
