Microsoft and MCI Communications today announced an alliance to market a variety of online and network-solutions services.

MCI will offer a customized version of Microsoft's online service. Dubbed MSN from MCI, the service will allow users to access the Internet and MSN. MCI will also customize content for the service that will be separate from MCI's venture with News Corp, according to MCI CEO Bert Roberts. MCI has also selected Microsoft's Internet Explorer as its preferred browser.

The companies will exchange revenue based on the success of the alliance.

Microsoft has also teamed with Wal-Mart Stores for an online shopping venture set to launch later this spring. The service will allow shoppers to browse and buy Wal-Mart merchandise.

Pricing information and further details are not available because the project is still under development, according to company officials.
