A new LG smart phone has leaked online. Dubbed the X3, this mysterious mobile is rumoured to be packing Ice Cream Sandwich and a quad-core processor.

Pocketnow has acquired specs and a potential promo shot of the X3, and while there are no obvious surprises in the design department (black and rectangular, you say?), the hardware the X3 is reportedly rocking has us intrigued.

A quad-core Tegra 3 processor is reckoned to be running the show, while the 4.7-inch display will supposedly pack 1,280x720 pixels.

That makes for a 720p screen, which is the same resolution found on mobiles like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Sony Xperia S, which was unveiled a few weeks ago.

An 8-megapixel camera is expected to be making an appearance, and we'd be alarmed and disgruntled if the X3 didn't hit the ground running Android 4.0, aka Ice Cream Sandwich. That's the latest and greatest version of Google's mobile operating system, and brings a host of new features and aesthetic changes.

The X3 is also rumoured to measure less than 9mm deep, and pack NFC tech as well as a 2,000mAh battery.

Those are some impressive specs, but with the Mobile World Congress trade show just weeks away, we suspect that by March we'll have seen loads of phones that boast similarly potent hardware. Will the X3 be able to stand out from the crowd of brand-new blowers?

Time will tell, but we're impatient so hit us with your predictions in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.
