Telecommunications vendor Ericsson said Thursday that it has won a contract to provide telephone network equipment valued at $50 million to BSSL, a cellular provider in India. BSSL will use the equipment to either create new cellular networks or upgrade existing ones in three southern India states, said Michelle French, a spokeswoman for Ericsson. This is the first deal between Ericsson and BSSL, a joint venture of Hutchison Telecom of Hong Kong, and Essar Group, which is an Indian carrier, French said.
